Why M.G. Ramachandran remains an inspiration to all
M.G. Ramachandran or MGR as he was known affectionately is one actor and politician who remains the favorite of old and young Tamils alike. His movies depict the greatness of Tamil culture, value systems and especially his ‘tattva paadal’ are highly meaningful and are truly priceless.
It is quite amazing how the team of these artists, M.S Viswanathan, T.M Sounderarajan, Kannadaasan or Vaali and MGR created magic everytime they worked together. From composing all time favorites such as “Nalla Nalla Pillaigalai Nambi” to “Innam yethanai kaalam thaan yemathuvaar intha naatiley”, the songs ooze emotional value and religious truths that are very precious to humanity.
Especially for the Tamil youth, MGR remains a huge inspiration. He started his career in movies at a late age of 35 and from there, conquered the world endlessly. His stint as a Tamil politician remains unmatched till date.
He provided for Tamils and Tamil Nadu what Periyaar and Kamaraj did selflessly. He also had a cordial relationship with both Dr. Karunanidhi and Madam Jayalalitha.
He had an infectious smile. When a song like “Paarappa Pazhaniyappa” plays on, it creates magic even today. Of course the beautiful, meaningful lyrics of all his songs are worth mentioning.
He is said to have been the mentor of great artists such as Saroja Devi and S.P Balasubramaniam, artists who have been assets to Tamil films for years altogether. Of course his mentoring to our present CM is very well known.
If Tamil Nadu has seen great leaders like Dr. Kalam, it has also seen great artists and human beings such as MGR whose governance and leadership is unmatched. We surely need more people like him today, who would live for and give to others selflessly.
