Built by the Pallava King Nandivarma, the Nathan koil in Nandipura Vinnagaram is in the Shenbakaaranya Kshetram, which runs from here up to Mannargudi. It is one of the 108 divyadesams. It is located near Kumbakonam.

The perumal in this temple: Jagannatha Perumal. It is also called Dakshina Puri, i.e equivalent to Jagannath Puri situated in Orissa.

Nandi, escort of Lord Shiva got mukti here from a curse that he was ridden with.

Every year the Garuda Sevai and the Pavithrothsavams happen regularly here. This year, in 2015, 25th to 27th, the ceremonies happened gloriously.
